TD invests in the development of Phase 2 - Pathways to Careers in Cybersecurity and Computer Science

DYLOTT is excited to announce support from TD Bank Group in DYLOTT’s Phase 2 - Pathways to Careers in Cybersecurity and Computer Science program for Black high school students in the Etobicoke North, Black Creek/Humber Summit and York/South Weston neighborhoods.

With this investment, DYLOTT aims to prioritize the upskilling of Black youth to address the education to employment opportunities gap facing these young people.

Following the completion of the TD funded and DYLOTT convened Phase 1 10-month research study determining education and career entry point barriers facing Black youth in cybersecurity; TD has committed to sponsoring Phase 2, the co-op to careers pipeline development for Black youth into the cybersecurity and computer science industry.

The onset of COVID-19 amplified the access to technology training and technical skills disadvantage that Black youth face. Compounding this issue is the pronounced shift in the labor market due to automation and the digital revolution.

TD’s sponsorship of this pilot program creates the opportunity to address some of the historical structural barriers facing Black young people; while also enabling DYLOTT to “fulfill our mandate of designing programs to address barriers to social inclusion in employment, education and the broader social context. This Pathways development program is a systemic changemaker anticipated to build a strong pipeline for Black technology focused talent in Toronto and beyond.” Candies Kotchapaw, Founder and Executive Director of DYLOTT.

“At TD, we believe in removing barriers and helping to create more opportunities for people everywhere to thrive within their community," said Mushtak Najarali, Senior Vice President, Metro East, TD Bank. "We are so proud to support DYLOTT and to work with organizations who are focused on investing in the future and well-being of black youth in communities across our footprint"
