Model United Nations & Young Diplomats Forum summits 


This training will combine both understanding and knowledge on current affairs and key issues in international development, with soft skills training including an introduction to diplomatic and issues based negotiations, communication tools, and community engagement. The training will be delivered in module style courses which will blend both substantive knowledge and skills training.

The training, delivered by Young Diplomats of Canada as well as community experts, will be composed of five modules:

Module 1: International Organizations and the international system – February 23, 2019
Module 2: Public policy development – March 23, 2019
Module 3: Presenting your ideas: debate, negotiation, diplomacy and persuasion – April 20, 2019 (date may be changed due to Easter holiday)
Module 4: Community Engagement – May 25, 2019
Module 5: Youth Advocacy – June 15, 2019

Topics covered will include:

  • The United Nations System, including the role of the UN and how Canada engages
  • The role of the G7/G20 forums including policy priorities and youth and CSO engagement
  • How public policy is developed in Canada and international issues based domestic policy
  • How Canada engages in the international system of policy and decision making
  • What is diplomacy and how do you find areas of mutual agreement and collaboration
  • Approaching public speaking and presentations
  • Conducting successful, inclusive consultations with youth
  • How can you engage in advocacy in your community
  • Why is youth engagement important

**Additional modules will be offered by Black community leaders in our five career focus areas.**
